On Your Marks for The Run ’11
April 4, 2011
We are very pleased to officially declare entries for this year’s The Run Northamptonshire event open. Northamptonshire’s high profile mass participation event, which is now in its third year, will take place on Sunday 2nd October, starting and finishing from Sixfields Stadium, home of the Cobblers.
With hopes of achieving well over 3000 participants this year, we are keen to stress the event is for everyone - experienced racers, keen runners, first time joggers and determined walkers / strollers. With the main 10km event on a closed road circular route around the town centre, complimented by a 5km route plus Children’s Races, The Run ’11 aims to fulfil everyone’s running goals and provide a positive experience for all.
We are also proud to announce a new headline sponsor for the event, the Willmott Dixon Group. Founded in 1852, Willmott Dixon Group is the UK’s third largest privately owned capital works, regeneration and support services company, and has grown to become one of the country’s most recognisable brands for the built environment. Local builds include Corby East Midlands International Swimming Pool with Kettering Academies being the latest contract.
Bob Athroll, Education Sector Manager at Willmott Dixon said “We are delighted to be involved in a local sporting event of this scale. We believe this is a natural extension of the work we are doing in Northamptonshire where we are delivering exciting buildings that are helping to transform the lives of local people.”
One of the event organisers, Chris Holmes, Director at Northamptonshire Sport, said “We are really thankful to Willmott Dixon and all of our sponsors and funders for their support in helping to make The Run ’11 a reality. The Run ’11 is the ideal mass participation event to engage with the local community and with London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games around the corner; we hope to use it to create a legacy of sports participation here in Northamptonshire”
The lead cars for the event will once again be provided by Northampton Audi, part of the Vindis Group.
Anyone interested in entering is invited to sign up either on-line at www.the-run.org or to look out for one of the entry forms that will be circulating local gyms, libraries, council receptions and country parks. As an incentive to encourage participants to enter the event early, those entering the event before 29th July will be able to take part at the 2010 prices, with an additional £2 added to the entry fee for those entering after this date. So why not sign up now and persuade your friends and colleagues to get involved also. Bring the family, children and relatives along on the day to cheer the runners and walkers on, perhaps join in with one of the other fun activities that will be organised as well.
