Team GI Tri Bridgtown launch Outlaw dream team
April 4, 2011
Team GI Tri Bridgtown is new team ready to make its mark on triathlon this year. The professional team, which includes British Ironman record holder, Tom Lowe, sits alongside the established novice Gi Tri club aiming to make our sport more accessible to a broad audience.
Lowe, who set the new Ironman record of 8:11:44 in Arizona in November, will be part of the new sponsored squad alongside Joel and Toby Jamieson and Cat Pickthall.
Joel has been a regular winner nationally at events including setting a course record at the Vitruvian in September, and will step up to long distance triathlon at Nottingham’s Outlaw Triathlon on 24 July. Meanwhile Pickthall, a standout swimmer at Loughbrough University and the current British Age Group Triathlon Champion, will combine with Tom Lowe and Toby Jamieson in a relay dream team at the Outlaw.
Team director, Paul Caunce, said: “Gi Tri was established as a novice team in 2009 to persuade more people that you don’t need to be an ironman in order to do a triathlon. Having the professional team attached has already helped us introduce a bit of stardust into our coached sessions.”
“I’m excited about getting the season underway and racing at the Outlaw will be the highlight as it’s the only time we’ll have the full team together this year.”
Bridgtown Cycles have supplied the team with Trek bikes for the season. Their store in Cannock, Staffordshire, stocks a full range of time trial, road and mountain bikes.
Tom Lowe commented “I’m looking forward to a new season of racing with Gi Tri Bridgtown and working towards racing at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in October.”
