New City of Cambridge Triathlon set for September
January 8, 2014
Cambridge is set to host a mass participation triathlon event in the city in September. The Olympic distance event, featuring a 1500m swim in the River Cam followed by a 40km cycle ride and 10km run will feature up to 3000 competitors during September.
The City of Cambridge Triathlon will be organised by One Step Beyond, and Cambridge Property Lettings have already confirmed their headline support for the new event.
The swim section of the triathlon will take place in the Cam, starting at Jesus Lock. The 40k bike section will head out of town whilst the 10km run will use city centre routes. Pre registration is open now via this link and it is hoped that entries will open next month.
Event director, Adam Moffat commented: “The event will be really special with the swim in the river and much of the event taking place in the city centre. Cambridge has a big community of triathletes and runners, and we’ve been really pleased with the support we’ve had so far to get this event launched.”
He added; “We’ll be working with Cancer Research UK, who have benefited from over £220,000 of fund raising activity from the Cambridge Half Marathon in the last two years. We hope this event will attract existing and new triathletes. We are aiming for a high quality event and hope to attract 3000 athletes.”
Janette Thomas from Cambridge Triathlon Club said: “We are pleased to support this event as a welcome addition to our own club events in the region. We are looking forward to supporting One Step Beyond in a competitive event where our members, including novices, a world champion and several internationals, can compete in an atmospheric event alongside local people.”
Trevor Hames from Cambridge Property Lettings said: “As soon as we heard about the potential for a triathlon in Cambridge we were keen to be involved. This event will be a great addition to the major events calendar in Cambridge and a real spectacle for people to watch.”
