The Bison Hill Challenge - The UK’s toughest Duathlon
June 15, 2011
Are you tough enough to take on the UK’s newest and toughest duathlon, The Bison Hill Challenge? The event will take place on October 8 at Dunstable Downs a venue considered a haven for gliding and kite flying which tells you little bit of what to expect.
One Step Beyond Promotions www.onestepbeyond.org.uk & Tri One www.tri1.co.uk have put together a seriously challenging course, which coupled with the strong winds will not be one for the faint hearted!
The event kicks off with 2 x 5.6km off road run loops which include a steep ascent up a chalk trail - this will sap the energy of even the fittest endurance athlete. It doesn’t get any easier as you start the bike section 3 x 10km (on road) bike loops incorporating the infamous Bison Hill climb. Finally you will be faced with 2 more run loops, only the strongest will make it to the finish!
Adam Moffat, of One Step Beyond, commented “We have been looking for a venue where we can stage a really tough event for some time and at Dunstable Downs we really have found it. We looked at bringing the run course down the chalk trail but it was too steep so we switched it around – it is one hell of a climb!”
With the Bison Hill to contend with on the bike, which at its steepest is a 1:4 (25%) climb, there really are no hiding places on this course”
For those that want to get involved but don’t fancy the full challenge, we have a ‘Baby Bison’ option which is 1 loop of each section, but don’t be fooled by the distances (5.6km run – 10km bike – 5.6km run) this is still a serious challenge.
There are some fantastic scenic spots that your supporters will appreciate while they watch you punish yourself on the course, they will be able to support you on both the run and bike sections.
