Alexander & Richards claim Outlaw Half titles in Nottingham
June 2, 2015
Karl Alexander overcame poor conditions and a very competitive field to win Nottingham’s Outlaw Triathlon (31 May). He completed the 1900m swim, 56mile bike ride and 13.1mile run in 4hours 15:19 to win by less than two minutes. Suzie Richards convincingly won the women’s event despite it being her first attempt at a middle distance triathlon.
Alexander, who is based in High Wycombe, finished third last year, but leapfrogged his rivals, Ian Turner and Paul Hawkins, to win the race this year. Ian Turner finished second for the third year in a row. Defending winner and course record holder, Paul Hawkins, was the early leader, but was disappointed to have to withdraw after the first lap of the run due to having missed training through injury. He will be back for the Outlaw Triathlon on 26 July.
The women’s event was dominated by Leeds based Suzie Richards, who completed her first ever middle distance triathlon. Richards’ winning margin was fifteen minutes over Elaine Garvican. Olympic silver medal winning Modern Pentathlete, Heather Fell, finished fourth in her first ever triathlon.
Local trio Andy Tarry, Mark Redwood and Tom McGlashan won the relay event representing the award winning TFN shop, which is based in Beeston, Nottingham.
Local clubs had a huge presence through competing and volunteering in the worst conditions ever seen at an Outlaw event. A special mention goes to local man, David Manning-Ohren, who represents the 4Life Tri club, who completed the race in 5:30:41 and has now completed all three Outlaw Half events, and all five Outlaw events so far. He’s back for the Outlaw on 26 July.
Well over 1000 people completed the course, and hundreds of volunteers helped deliver the third Outlaw Triathlon. The date for next year’s event is yet to be announced, with entries expected to open around the end of August 2015. The event usually sells out in a matter of hours, but prospective competitors will have the opportunity to pre register their interest in advance.

From a spectator, a huge thank you to all the volunteers and competitors, who despite the most awful weather I have spectated any triathlon event in, made the event so successful.
Just wanted to email and say a great big thank you to all involved with organising a superb event . The Outlaw half was a great experience and couldn’t fault any part of it (excluding the weather) all volunteers were brilliant and looked after all participants throughout the day . I will definitely be entering this race again in the future .
Regards
Dylan Morrey
